Peer Review Process
Canadian Social Science adheres to a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly work. Our review policy is designed to uphold academic integrity, promote fair evaluation, and provide constructive feedback to authors.
1. Double-Blind Peer Review Process
The identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed to maintain impartiality throughout the review process.
- Authors' identities are removed from the manuscript before it is sent to reviewers.
- Reviewers are instructed not to seek information about the authors.
2. Manuscript Evaluation Criteria
Manuscripts are evaluated based on the following aspects:
- Originality and Contribution: The work’s novelty and its contribution to the field of social sciences.
- Relevance: Alignment with the journal’s scope and objectives.
- Methodological Rigor: Appropriateness and robustness of the research methods and analysis.
- Clarity and Organization: Quality of writing, logical flow, and presentation of findings.
- Ethical Compliance: Adherence to ethical standards in research practices.
3. Review Process Steps
Initial Screening:
All submissions undergo an initial review by the editorial team to ensure compliance with the journal’s submission guidelines, focus, and scope. Manuscripts that fail to meet basic requirements may be desk-rejected without external review.Assignment to Reviewers:
Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to at least two qualified reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.Reviewer Recommendations:
Reviewers submit detailed reports, including recommendations to:- Accept without revisions.
- Accept with minor revisions.
- Major revisions required.
- Reject.
Editorial Decision:
Based on reviewer feedback, the editorial team makes the final decision and communicates it to the authors. Authors may be required to revise and resubmit their manuscript.
4. Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest
- Confidentiality: All submitted manuscripts and reviewer reports are treated as confidential. No information about a manuscript is disclosed to anyone outside the editorial and review team.
- Conflict of Interest: Reviewers and editors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers who identify a conflict must decline the review.
5. Timeframe
Canadian Social Science aims to provide timely feedback to authors:
- Initial editorial screening: Within 2 weeks of submission.
- Peer review: Typically completed within 4-6 weeks.
- Final decision: Communicated within 8 weeks of submission.
6. Appeals
Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions. Appeals must be submitted in writing, explaining the grounds for reconsideration. The editorial board will review appeals, and the decision made after the appeal process is final.
7. Ethical Responsibilities

Plagiarism involves the presentation of someone else's work, ideas, or intellectual property as one's own without giving appropriate credit. This includes, but is not limited to, verbatim copying, paraphrasing, or summarizing without proper citation.
Detection of Plagiarism:
CSS employs advanced plagiarism detection tools to screen all submitted manuscripts. Authors are also encouraged to ensure the originality of their work before submission.
Types of Plagiarism:
- Verbatim Plagiarism: Directly copying and pasting text from another source without proper citation.
- Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting someone else's work without proper attribution.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reproducing one's own previously published work without proper acknowledgment.

Consequences of Plagiarism:
