Reflection on the Concept of “Minzu” in Cross-Cultural Communication

Abstract


With an objective analysis of Minzu’s Chinese definitions and a comparative study with its most frequent English translations, this paper aims to reveal potential misunderstanding issues in the practice of cross-lingual, cross-cultural interaction.

Résumé Cet article analyse objectivement la complexité et l’ambiguïté de la signification du mot « nation » dans le chinois, met en question son tradution anglaise et indique les problèmes latents des propos concernant la nation dans la communication transculturelle. Cet article vise à révéler les barrières éventuelles dans la communication transculturelle à travers l’analyse de la complexité et l’ambiguïté de la notion « nation » et discute les stratégies de la communication transculturelle dans le contexte de la mondialisation.

摘 要 本文客觀分析了“民族＂一詞現代漢語語義的複雜性和模糊性，並提出了對其主要英語譯文的質疑，指出了“民族＂相關話語在跨文化交際中的潛在問題。旨在透過中英“民族＂概念的複雜性和模糊性揭示中西跨文化交際的可能障礙，並探討全球化語境下跨文化交際策略。
